Blood relations, made easy
💡 The idea
Never solve it in your head. Draw a small family tree: one row per generation, a line for parents, ♥ for married, and mark who is a man or a woman.
One sentence at a time→Generations in rows→Mark man / woman→Read the link
🧭 The method: 3 steps
- Draw each sentence as you read it.
- Keep each generation on its own row.
- Count the rows between the two people and read the relation from the tree.

✏️ Worked examples
Example 1. Pointing to a boy, Lina says “He is the son of my mother’s only son.” Who is he?
- Lina’s mother’s only son = Lina’s brother
- The boy is her brother’s son
⚡ Shortcut: Her nephew
⚠️ Where people go wrong
- “Only son” of my father, said by a man, is himself; said by a woman, it is her brother.
- Assuming someone is a man or a woman when the question does not say.
- Mixing up whose father or mother is meant in “my father’s…”.
📌 Remember
- Draw it
- Rows = generations
- In-laws come through a marriage
